Obituary - Ernest Aylott
9 September 1923 – 4 July 2021

It is with much sadness that we report the passing of one of the co-founders of IPHAS – Ernest Aylott – who died in hospital on 4 July.
Known to everyone as Ernie, he and his wife Joan joined forces with Roy and Beryl Waite back in 1993 to form the Independent Park Home Advisory Service (IPHAS) which was then a new, voluntary advisory group whose aim was to provide information, advice and support to its members and others in the residential park homes sector.
From these relatively humble beginnings, IPHAS developed into a recognised organisation that continues to support its many thousands of members nationwide, as well as representing members’ interests in the development of new park homes legislation and regulation with the devolved governments in the UK.
Ernie was a great support to Joan over the years as she dealt with much of the IPHAS administrative work and also became the organisation’s ‘president’. Many will be familiar with Ernie’s smiling face and his infectious sense of humour. Typical of this was the comment he made back in 2016 when he was presented with his World War II medals by the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset – he said he ‘didn’t know what all the fuss was about’ (see picture)

Subsequently he also received the Légion d’Honneur medal, the highest decoration in France, and this was awarded to surviving WW2 veterans in recognition of the liberation of France.
Another high point in Ernie’s life came in May this year when he and Joan celebrated their platinum (70 years) wedding anniversary.
Ernie is survived by Joan (who remains as IPHAS president) and their sons, Rus and Glenn and their families.
On behalf of all IPHAS members and those within the park home industry who knew Ernie, I would like to express sincere and heartfelt condolences to Joan, her family and their many friends around the country.
Donations in Ernie’s memory are being made to the Cardiac Department at Dorchester Hospital. Anyone wishing to donate should send a cheque (made out to G. Aylott) to Rus Yates-Aylott, 85 Daffodil Court, Ty Canol, Cwmbran, Torfaen, South Wales NP44 6JF - or transfer money by BACS to 44723010 – sort code 07-02-46.
